The May 2, 2006 issue features on its cover an illustration from research conducted in collaboration between the Genzer group, the Rojas group (Wood and Paper Science, NCSU) and the Szleifer group (Chemistry, Purdue University). Dr. Genzer is selected to receive the 2005 John H. Dillon Medal of the American Physical Society. This is a great honor for the entire group as well as all our collaborators.

In its April 14th, 2003 issue, C&E News published an article highlighting a symposium on polymer brushes that was held during this year's ACS meeting in New Orleans, LA. The January 13 issue contains our article titled “Combinatorial near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure: Simultaneous determination of molecular orientation and bond concentration on chemically heterogeneous surfaces” by Jan Genzer; Daniel A. Jan Genzer was interviewd by Kathy Clabby from the local newspaper News&Observer on topics related to nantechnology. Clabby's article outlines several initiatives in nanotechnology that are currently under way at NCSU, Duke Univerisity, and the UNC CHapel Hill. A copy of the original article can be found here. Two graduate students from our group participated in the Richard D. Gilbert Award Symposium for Students in Polymer Science. Tao Wu was the winner of the oral presentations with is talk on "Multivariant study of the mushroom-to-brush crossover in surface grafted polymers". Jim Semler won the poster contest with his poster on the "Design and interfacial activity of random-blocky copolymers with controlled sequence distributions". Congratulations to both Tao and Jim!

CHE Junior, David Erel, working in the Genzer lab has been selected as a co-winner of the 11th Annual NC State University Undergraduate Research Symposium in Engineering section for his work on “Design and interfacial activity of random-blocky copolymers with controlled sequence distributions”. David also recently presented his work at the Spring meeting of the Materials Research Society, where he was one of 40 students selected to receive the Materials Research Society's prestigious 2002 Undergraduate Materials Research Initiative (UMRI) award. Congratulations, David!
